"B" Coded B-26 Marauder based at Barksdale AAF, LA Photo depicts crew members
of the Free French Air Force USAAF Photo
|
.
The twin engine bomber training
aircraft displayed every format of letter coding defined by the USAAF (i.e. prefix, infix and suffix). However there was one
variation to the prefix that was utilized on some of the B-26 and A-26 aircraft as follows.. As in the photo above you will note the unusual sequence of "B F3". It is indeed a prefix notation
and the interpretation is as follows: The "B" represented the name of the base (i.e. Barksdale AAF) , "F"
signified the training group and "3" stood for the aircraft number within that training group. p
